Yoga | Level 2

 

Yoga is a moving meditation resulting in calmness and clarity. It maximises body tone, encourages weight loss, detoxifies and increases all-round health, flexibility, strength and balance. The result is a dramatic increase in energy, a stronger immune system and a sense of physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. Our yoga classes are taught in a high-heat (but not excessively hot) environment at around 23–25ºC, which is ideal for safely encouraging flexibility and allowing a gentle detoxification process. 

This energising and moderately physically challenging yoga class is aimed at students who are deepening their connection between movement and breath and the internal core support. At this intermediate level postures are linked together in a dynamic flowing sequence rooted in the practices of ashtanga (astanga) yoga. By moving from posture to posture with a linking vinyasa, the body is realigned in preparation for the next posture and the body's internal heat is increased. The class becomes more energising and challenging, but students are encouraged to work at their own individual edge. Alignment will be emphasised and corrected by the teacher. More postures will be explored in greater depth, further enhancing strength, flexibility, grounding and stamina. There will be five key elements to the yoga class including:

  • full sun salutations
  • standing postures
  • sitting postures
  • closing sequence postures
  • relaxation and meditation
All our yoga classes are held at our beautiful studio in West Norwood, on the borders of West Dulwich in South London.


Some experience of yoga is required for this flowing, dynamic class along with a reasonable level of fitness, adequate core strength and some understanding of yogic breathing.

Some students (particularly those who are not able to practice regularly) may wish to stay at this level; those who have built up sufficient strength and stamina and feel ready for greater intensity, can move on to Level 3. At this stage we recommend that students are practicing 2–3 times a week either at the centre or at home in order to really progress and feel the full benefits. Anyone with sufficient knowledge of the ashtanga standing posture sequence has the option to move directly in to the Mysore-style class.

  • Serious medical conditions or injuries should be discussed with us before booking so we can advise you on a personalised programme
  • Minor medical condition should be discussed with your teacher before the class. Please come 10 minutes before class to discuss.
  • Pregnant women of 14+ weeks may join this class if they have practiced yoga previously – please notify the teacher as some modifications will be required and the teacher will advise you accordingly
  • Post-natal women may join this class from 3-6 months if they have practiced yoga previously and have adequate core strength.
